The song I analyzed was "Umbrealla" By Rihanna ft. Jay-Z. The first thing I noticed in this song was an internal rhyme. The internal rhyme was, "Let it rain, I hydroplane into fame." This is an internal rhyme because it is words within lines that rhyme. Another technique I noticed was an assonance. The assonance occurred in the lyrics, "Comin' down like the Dow Jones." I released this was an assonance because down and dow are a repetition of similar vowel sounds in neighboring words. One other technique I noticed also was personification. Personification occurs in, "when the world has dealt its cards." The last technique I noticed was an alliteration. This alliteration is "under my umbrella." It's an alliteration because it is the repetition of identical sound patterns in the beginning of neighboring words.
I think that the speaker of this song is a girl in love, and the occasion of this song could be a girl who is trying to help the guy that she loves, whom is having a rough time. Also, the intended audience could be people who have or are sharing a certain experience. I feel that the purpose of this song is kind of the same as the occasion. I think that this song attempts to express the feeling of love in a hopeful way. The obvious subject of this poem is love. The speaker of this songs tone is encouraging towards whomever she is talking to. I think this because it says,"Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend."
