Madison's prompt

In the book I'm reading called "The Hate List," the main character experiences something no other high school student wants to encounter. She experiences a massive shooting at her school, and the person who pulled was behind the trigger was her very own boyfriend, Nick. If I had to experience this, I believe my hands and toes would go numb.

{Acting as the main character Val in the story}

As I walked in the cafiteria, everything just felt so surreal. Like I was dreaming in the inside, but terror was going on outside of me. I look to my left, to see Nick pointing the gun straight at my worst enemy. I don't know how to act, but next thing I know I was in front of the gun and the girl. Nick looked at me with those dreamy eyes, and I told myself this wasn't happening. I didn't know what was going on. It was sort of like my very own body was controlling me, while I just let it. I focused on calming Nick down, maybe I could change his mind. Next thing I know, my leg was gushing out blood. It happened so quick that I didn't even experience pain. How could this be happening?

  1. Wow, what a crazy situation to be in. I have absolutely no idea what I would do in that situation. You did a great job of expressing the conflicting emotions. I'm dying (no pun intended) to know how it ends.
